AVIATION/ RUSSIA GROUNDS ALL TUPOLEV TU154B AIRCRAFT

6 Russian Airlines have grounded their Tupolev TU154B planes after the KOLAVIA jet fire and explosion in Siberia which killed 3 people, the country's transport safety regulator said on today. At least 43 were injured when Kolavia Flight 348, carrying 124 passengers and crew, burst into flames while taxiing for takeoff from Surgut on January 1. The plane then exploded in a fireball, causing flames across an area of 100 sq m. The Rostransnadzor agency said 14 TU154Bs, which were still in service in Russia with the 6 carriers, will remain grounded until the cause of the incident has been determined. Russia's leading Airline, AEROFLOT, took all of its remaining 23 TU154 planes out of service last year.
